Hello, my name is Amy. I'm making documentaries atm and I have been writing scripts on the side. Writing lets me be creative, I'm enjoying it so I am considering writing as well as making docs. Even if it's just one script a year. I was a script supervisor for a few years so I know what I'm doing and have a few contacts etc.
I've been trying to research what percent a screenwriter gets for selling a film script. Am I right to believe it's 2%. I don't like the idea of ever selling a script for free but anything would be better than nothing. I'm guessing that means a film with a 200K budget I'll get about £4k.
Would you ever sell a first feature film script for nothing?

Welcome aboard, Amy!
I think your 2% of budget fee for a screenplay sounds about right with two caveats: 1. If the folks are signatories to the WGA's Basic Agreement then the fee per script can be from a minimum of $43,000 to a max of $87,800 regardless of budget. 2. If you have a blockbuster on your hands, it could be millions.
And to answer your question: No, I would never give away a script without compensation.
Keep Writing!
