Mike,
Glad to help out. A couple more suggestions...
On Henry & Brie's relationship, you could flashback at strategic points... when he pulls out her photograph or reads a letter or has an idle moment between bombardments...
To amp up the tension and conflict...
--Show Henry's family as they argue and debate whether to shun Henry (right now, this all occurs offscreen). It would also be a nice change of scenery from the warzone and give you an opportunity to show the war's long-range impact on the homefront, even those in "idyllic Quaker country."
--Make Brie's father initially disapprove of their relationship -- then you got tension between Brie & her Papa, the father & Henry, and added tension between Henry & Brie. Right now, everything's a little hunky dory. "Why can't Brie fall for a nice French boy?" seems like an appropriate attitude by the father.
Again, these are just suggestions. If they don't work for you, please ignore.
Keep scribblin'
Greg
