Why?, you might ask. Why a new screenwriting message board?
Very simple. Screenwriting, or any writing for that matter, is a singular, lone-wolf kind of enterprise. We need peace and quiet and solitude to get our thoughts on paper or into the computer. But, when we finish that script, how do we know if it is ready to see the light of day? How do we know if it is ready to throw to the wolves (read, Hollywood)? How do we know the damn thing is any good?
We don’t, not really. Unless we ask someone to read it. But does Aunt Martha, or Mom, or cousin Vinny understand the landscape of a screenplay? They read novels, short stories, the newspaper and the occasional magazine, but scripts….?
If you have a question about structure, plot, dialogue, etc. will Aunt Martha, or Mom, or cousin Vinny be in a position to offer guidance?
Come here. Let your peers help, provide feedback, offer constructive criticism, answer your questions. Tap into the wisdom and knowledge of hundreds (hopefully) ;D of fellow writers.
Studio honcho Jack L. Warner once quipped, "Actors? Schmucks. Screenwriters? Schmucks with Underwoods." I embrace this put-down as a gauntlet thrown and I hope this group of writers will prove Mr. Warner wrong.
