I've come up with an idea for a sci-fi/dram script. ARMAGEDDON meets A Day Time Soap Opera.
Synopsis: A second earth is found and a group of intelligent people (not all astronauts) go to Earth 2, where they actually meet themselves living in a totally different society, etc. It doesn't center around a protagonist, but rather the whole ensemble, and I have never tried to write a logline for an ensemble before. Here is my logline so far. What do you think?
After a solar storm both seals the fate of Earth, and reveals a second Earth, a team of scientists and astronauts travel to the second Earth only to deal with crushing moral questions when meet carbon copies of themselves.

MyBrain,
Here’s my first pass at a logline: After scientists discover a twin Earth NASA sends a scientific team to investigate only to face crushing moral issues when they realize the twin Earth is home to their doppelgängers.
Now for some bad news...
Don’t want to rain on your parade, but you might want to consider that this movie has already been done:
Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (1969)
Plot Summary: A planet is discovered in the same orbit as Earth's but is located on the exact opposite side of the sun, making it not visible from Earth. The European Space Exploration Council decide to send American astronaut Glenn Ross and British scientist John Kane via spaceship to explore the other planet. After a disastrous crash-landing Ross awakes to learn that Kane lies near death and that they apparently have returned to Earth, as evidenced by the presence of the Council director and his staff. Released to the custody of his wife, he soon learns things are not as they seem.
I would suggest you rent the film, take plenty of notes, and make your script similar, but different -- different enough so Hollywood doesn’t consider it a remake.
Press forward, my friend....
Keep Writing!

Wow! I've never heard of this film. Thank you very much for bringing it to my attention. From the description, it does sound like my idea is similar but different, but I will not know until I can get my hands on it. Hopefully my small city will have a copy available somewhere.
As far as the logline goes, it really still doesn't adequately describe the story. Once the characters get to Earth2, they will be dealing with many different and complex issues.
What if one woman falls in love with her Earth2 counterpart? Would it be incest or a loving lesbian relationship? What if the stowaway maintenance worker is actually the Earth2 world leader? What if the nicest man on Earth1 is a murderer on Earth2? How would he be treated if the society on Earth2 is more utopian than what we have on Earth1?
I would love to explore all those scenarios and see where the story takes me, but how would you describe that in a logline? Still thinking about it...

See also 'Another Earth' - out recently. It's not at all sci-fi and doesn't visit the other planet but it's the same idea: they all have doppelgangers and they even call it Earth 2....

I either need to get out and watch more movies, or I need to give this story a twist, right from the beginning. Ha!
